A pioneering inspiration for women, Pearlette J. Ramos, Ph.D., J.D. is a social entrepreneur, civil rights lawyer, award-winning filmmaker, and social justice advocate who helps organizations build leaders, teams, and cultures. She is deeply passionate about the intersectionality of gender, race, economic justice, and the law. Her work focuses on courageous leadership and structural change management, using storytelling and filmmaking as powerful tools to open hearts and minds—specifically aimed at empowering girls and women. She guides transformational journeys around the world, facilitates women’s empowerment workshops, and coaches others towards living life with passion and purpose from a place of authenticity.
Originally from Youngstown, Ohio, Dr. Ramos overcame significant obstacles including poverty, abuse, teenage motherhood, and dropping out of high school, to become a respected lawyer and world traveler. Pearlette has visited more than 80 countries and each of the seven continents. Her adventurous spirit inspired her to scuba dive at the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, parasail in Hawaii, travel down zip lines in the Alaskan wilderness, and snowshoe in the Antarctic region.
When she’s not working, Dr. Ramos spends time with her two adult daughters, Dionna and Nailah. She has served as a member of her local school board and volunteers with various nonprofit groups and philanthropic organizations. Passionate about women as powerful agents of change who transform the world through courageous leadership, she produced and co-direct her first feature documentary: Three (Extra)Ordinary Women. The social impact film tells the story of three women of color who were brought together through friendship and a desire to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. Each woman experienced childhood trauma, abuse and oppression—yet, went on to find the path to their power. They use the imposing mountain as both a metaphor for overcoming personal adversity and an opportunity to challenge insurmountable odds--like ending violence against women, undoing racism and overcoming fear.
